The much awaited summer release ‘Kantri’ starring Jr. NTR is an out and out action film with the back drop of gang rivalry. The film has enough songs and fights to make NTR fans happy but for the family audiences, it has nothing much to offer.

Mukesh Rushi is a rich landlord. His son comes from the US to set up a sugar factor in his village and thereby generate employment to every family in the village. He borrows money from the bank and while he is returning home, a trusted family aide Potha Raju (Prakash Raj) kills them all and grabs the money. He runs away from the village along with Ashish Vidyarthi, leaving behind his wife and infant son.

Kranthi@Kantri (Jr. NTR) is an orphan living in an orphanage along with some children. The orphanage is run by Kota Srinivasa Rao. There is also a paraplegic in the orphanage and NTR takes special care of him and treats him s his brother.

NTR falls in love with Varalakshmi (Hansika Motwani) at first sight and follows her everywhere. NTR joins the gang of Ashsish Vidyarthi who is working for Prakash Raj. NTR is sent to Hong Kong where Prakash Raj runs his empire. He is involved in manufacturing counterfeit currency, pushing drugs etc. NTR helps Prakash Raj in taking revenge on his rival Mukul Sharma.

The interval bang comes with a big suspense as Prakash Raj learns that NTR is actually his son. But NTR is not ready to accept him as he has deserted him and his mother during his childhood. With NTR turning out to be the son of the main villain Prakash Raj, the suspense mounts as to what NTR will do next.

The rest of the film moves from on end to other and finally all the villain like Prakash Raj, Ashish vidyarthi, Sayaji Shinde, Mukul Sharma ganging up against NTR.  why do they gang up against NTR, and how he takes them on, forms the remaining part of the story?

Performance:

NTR is quite dashing in his new slimed down avatar. He is a god dancer and the film once again gives him a chance to show off his dancing skill. The fights are also more than adequate to project his macho image.

Hansika as Varalakshmi is both good looking as well as charming. She fits the bill of a glamorous heroine perfectly.

Prakash Raj once again comes up with another good performance. His get up is reminiscent of the popular yesteryear Bollywood hero Vinod Khanna.

Tanisha sizzles in her brief role as the daughter of Ashish Vidyarthi. She appears late in the second half. She has gone a little overboard in doing hot exposing scenes.

Ashsish Vidyarthi, Sayaji Shinde and Mukul Sharma are okay. But the director has failed to utilize the talent of Mukul Sharma completely. Even Sayaji Shinde comes out more as a joker than a dreaded villain.

The songs, music and the composition of songs are good. NTR shows how good a dancer he is once again with this film.

NTR makes a grand entry on a cycle, the symbol of the TDP. He also refers to how his grandfather NT Rama Rao stormed to power riding on a humble cycle. The audiences also cheer wildly when NTR says “Taggindhi naa body weight maatrame, head weight kaadu”.
There are some such similar punch dialogues by NTR that bring a loud applause from the audience.  the lack of good comedy and family sentiment may affect the fate of the film to some extent. The film does not offer much for the ladies and family audiences.
Bur for all die hard fans of Jr. NTR, it is a 100 percent paisa vasool film.
