The Match Day team was off to an early start this morning at 3Ws Oval
at the University of the West Indies’ (UWI) Cave Hill campus in
Barbados.
Security teams, volunteers, media and operations
personnel arrived at various checkpoints by dawn and underwent full
security screening conducted CWC Security and Safety officers. By
7:30am all security and safety units had been briefed of the day’s
duties and dispatched to their designated posts for the Sri
Lanka-Scotland clash.
“We are pleased with how the first day got off. It gave us a good sense
of some of the areas that we still need to work on ahead of the Super
8s.
“However, we were quite pleased with the Park and Ride
sites, the team facilitation and transportation logistics, and the
volunteers who rose to the occasion this morning,” said Francine
Charles, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Barbados Local
Organising Committee (LOC).
Over in St. Vincent & the
Grenadines, where England opposed Bermuda, CEO of the LOC, Mike
Findlay, also gave the nod of approval to the day’s proceedings.
“I
thought it went pretty well. There were a few early problems with
Accreditation but once those were sorted things went smoothly. We are
indeed happy with how everything has worked out.”
The former
West Indies player added that though “we are still awaiting greater
feedback, the initial comments from both officials and spectators have
been very favourable”.
