The brand USI has incorporated small yet perceptible features in each garment. The latest collection includes sweatshirts, wallets, windcheaters, mufflers, mobile pouches and removable logos on sweatshirts etc.
The sweatshirts are quite interesting. They have foldable cuffs that substitute as gloves if it is very cold. Smart idea, that! The sweatshirt has an inbuilt slit on the sleeves that can be used to pass the thumb thereby converting the sleeve into a half glove, keeping the wrist and palms warm.
Wallets have special compartments for storing a key, sim card and memory chip making them items of high utility. Mufflers available in beige and green include inbuilt slits to avoid the bulky knot and still hold the muffler together. Interestingly, the windcheater can be folded and packed into a small portable pouch.
Useful mobile pouches, sunglasses and pen loops in USI denims will be add-ons. There’s also a hidden zipper in many garments. A metal USI logo used on sweatshirts can be removed without damaging it in the process.
The USI enviroclub has been spreading awareness about environment related issues like global warming, reusing and recycling waste since its inception in 1996. Also, 95 per cent of their products are made from natural biodegradable fibres. The extensive use of natural dyes for adding colour to the garments helps in minimising damage.
Says Ashvinder Singh, managing director, USI, “We strictly say no to plastic. We also use recyclable paper bags and jute strings for attaching tags to garments. Instead of throwing away waste fabric pieces, we combine them with jute to make folders, wallets and pouches. These are made by slum dwellers and this way we also support a social cause.”
So here’s a company that is sensitive towards the environment and also takes care of the fashion sensibilities of the youth. Bravo!
