Darsheel Safary role in the film as Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi a 8 years old boy who loves colours, fish, shiny things, dogs, spaceships and kites. Drawing and painting are his passions and does not want to go to boarding school.
 Vipin Sharma role in the film as Nandkishore Awasthi who is Ishaan’s father who doe not want any complains against his son from teachers and gets angry easily. He thinks that only a boarding school can help his son to know disciple.
Tisca Chopra role in the film as Maya Awasthi and mother of Ishaan’s
She is known for making good food and consoles his son when he gets hurt. She too does not like his son to send him to boarding school but things that he may improve in the process.
Sachet Engineer role in the film as Yohaan Awasthi is Ishaan’s grandfather. He is keen of playing tennis and cricket and loves his grandson very much.
Aamir Khan role in the film as Ram Shankar Nikumbh who is teacher of Ishaan and does not scold him like other teachers. He too likes paintings and encourages him in all his interests.
Tanay Chheda role in the film as Rajan Damodaran is best friend of Ishaan and is very intelligent and smart studious student. He always tries to help his friend.
The story is about a boy who is eight years old and whose is always in his own world of
interests and just can not get anything in class. This makes his father to think that he needs a boarding school to get some disciple and concentrate on his studies. He is then send to a boarding school where he finds Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir khan) who is a good teacher and tries to make his students happy and be optimistic. Breaking all the rules he asks them to think and dream. All the children respond with a great interest but Ishaan is the only child who is unhappy. Finally with lot of patience he ultimately helps Ishaan to find himself.
