Night at the Museum Movie Trailer

Night at the Museum is a 2006 fantastic comedy film directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Owen Wilson, and Ricky Gervais. It is based on The Night at the Museum, a 1993 children's book by Milan Trenc. The screenplay was co-written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant of Comedy Central's Reno 911 and MTV's The State (TV Series). Leslie Goldman wrote a new novelization of the movie, which is being published as a movie tie-in. The film was released on December 22, 2006.

Plot

Larry Daley is a divorced parent accepts a graveyard shift security guard at the struggling natural history museum, to replace three night guards who are being fired: Cecil, Gus, and Reginald.

The watchmen give Larry an instruction manual, telling him to read everything in the manual and follow the instructions quickly and in order. Cecil tells Larry he must not let anything in or out of the museum. Ignoring their advice and falling asleep, Larry awakes to see the exhibits come to life. Quickly, he tries to follow the instruction manual until it is torn up by Dexter, the monkey. Without instructions, Larry has trouble dealing with several exhibits and chaos erupts. Theodore Roosevelt, to whom the museum is dedicated, helps Larry restore order. Larry finds the museum comes to life because of an ancient Egyptian tablet and any exhibit outside the museum at sunrise turn to dust. The next day, Dr. McPhee, the museum director threatens Larry's job because Octavius (leader of the Roman army) was found in the cowboy exhibit. Since there is no duplicate of the manual, Cecil suggests Larry studies about the exhibits and their history. That night, Larry comes to work armed with a plan. The plan fails and in the confusion, Dexter steals Larry's keys. He opens a window, which one of the Neanderthals climbs out of. It turns to dust when the sun rises.

Larry is almost fired for the damage done to the Neanderthal exhibit. Larry meets Rebecca, a staff member, and learns she is writing a dissertation on Sacagawea. He tries to explain that she could speak to Sacagawea, but she thinks he is mocking her.

Larry brings his son, Nick, along to show him the exhibits. However that night, none of the exhibits come to life, because the former night guards stole the Egyptian tablet in retaliation for the museum for firing them. They found that the tablet rejuvenated their youth during night. The guards, planning to frame Larry for their crime, lock Larry and Nick in Akhmenrah's exhibit, but not before Nick fixes the tablet, bringing the exhibits to life again. Larry opens up the sarcophagus to enlist Akhmenrah's help.

Also managing to befriend Attila the Hun, Larry finds all the inhabitants busy fighting. He restores order by explaining that the tablet is what brings them to life and it if is stolen, they cannot live. All exhibits agree to help. After capturing Gus and Reginald, Cecil escapes on stagecoach, chased by Larry. Cecil is caught and Akhmenrah helps Larry gets all the inhabitants back to the museum. Larry calls Rebecca, who arrives just in time to witness the spectacle.

Larry is once again fired by Dr. McPhee because of the unexplainable happenstances that went on that night, such as T-Rex footprints. After the museum becomes packed with interested people due to the news reports on the incidents, Larry gets his job back.

That night, there is a party at the museum. Larry decides not to turn in the guards, as long as they agree to become janitors.
