Vikram
Chopra's 'Fight Club' has a good little mix of actors
starring in it, wit action, comedy and entertainment
thrown in. So as a Sohail Khan production expect plenty
of male testosterone thrown about! The journey of friends
Vicky (Zayed Khan), Karan (Dino Morea), Somil (Ritesh
Deshmukh) and Diku (Aashish Choudhary), are the centre
of the movie as we learn of the incidents that tests
their friendship to the extremes. Then one day
Vicky comes across the concept of 'THE FIGHT CLUB' and
all is set to change. Not just any club this is a club
where grown men can let of steam and settle old scores.
It's fun, it's illegal and it is all underground- different
venues, different times. While the boys are onto a good
little earner there is a shift in the plot.
The four friends have to leave Mumbai for an assignment
in Delhi to take care of a nightclub that is being troubled
by local gangsters. As the drama unfolds, ex-king pins
Anna's (Suniel Shetty) brother is killed filled with
vengeance the situation begins to get out of control.
A man who feels no remorse is Dinesh ( Ashmit Patel)
who is behind the killing with his brother Sandy (Rahul
Dev). But 'The Fight Club' have an ace up their sleeve
in the shape of bouncer Sameer (Sohail Khan) who only
talks with his fists, but don't forget his new love
on the way who he finds with the name of Komal ( Neha
Dhupia.)It's down to the five boys who are strangers
in this town to deal with the most vicious of gang lords.
What then follows is some fight sequences, some well
choreographed, others over the top 'Bollywood Style.'
Although the David Fincer movie was of the same title,
it is not a direct copy. Yes, the actual theme of the
fight club is used, but this version is laced with the
usual 'masala' songs, romantic twists and some element
of style.Although full of clichés and sometimes
too many stars can ruin a movie, this one sees the guys
acting well together even getting in a few laughs along
the way. Some good 'eye candy' for the boys via Amrita
Arora and Dia Mirza with a couple of good little numbers
thrown in, it stops the movie from being too aggressive
and too much of a boys film, although fillers they do
balance out the movie well.
Zayed Khan is excellent in his role, and fits in naturally,
Dino Morea tries too had but is a bit too wooden at
times. Leaving the majority of wisecracks to Aashish
Chaudhary which are entertaining at times. Ritesh Deshmukh
is too reserved and sits well in the background of the
actual Fight Club.
Sohail Khan does make his entrance well enough but his
performance throughout is a bit too much on the predictable
side, however it's his run of the movie so who are we
to argue? As with Suniel Shetty he does exactly what
it says on the box, once again in a limited role, he
really could do with exploring his emotive range slightly.Shot
well, very stylish throughout although the 'matrix'
style shots are becoming a bit too repetitive and boring.
With a weak plot, it's the actors and the odd songs
that will perhaps encourage cinemagoers. Just about
average.
