This
film could easily have been called 'Bewafa'. The title
seems more apt for it. I walked into the theatre expecting
a loser but was pleasantly surprised when the film gripped
me, particularly the first half. It gives the impression
of being a simple love triangle but surprises are galore.
This is a suspense thriller.
The twist in the post-interval section is very interesting.
It reminded me of 'Gupt'. Just when one thought that
the film was over, the sudden twist gave it an exciting
hue. But the post-interval section slacks a bit and
is a bit of a disappointment until of course, the sudden
twist in the tale.
The film starts with
a car falling off a 50-ft. cliff. A man's body is thrown
out and another bloody hand slips out of the right door
of the car. Cut to the hospital. The man, Nikhil (Arjun
Rampal), is in the ICU while his wife, Simar (Priyanka
Chopra), has managed to escape with a couple of bruises
on her face.
Nikhil is a business
tycoon. The couple lives in some remote area with no
habitation at all. Nikhil's face is badly distorted.
He has also lost his memory. He is suffering from selective
amnesia. Simar is the loving wife and the couple comes
much closer.
Nikhil start his life
from scratch again. At first, he relies on the care
and guidance of his loving wife and business associates
(Ankur Nayyar and his sister Kim Sharma). But soon there
is confusion. He comes across some documents in his
office that makes him wonder about his wife's fidelity.
He reconnects with a detective (Saurabh Shukla) and
decides to dig deeper!
There is quite a bit
of cinematic liberty which the viewer might detect but
talking about it now will be giving away the suspense
element of the film. Now for the performances. Arjun
Rampal delivers a good performance. He also looks dishy.
His badly battered face in the hospital looks real.
Priyanka Chopra has attempted another interesting role
after 'Aitraaz'. But we wonder if the masses will really
love her for this character.
Kim Sharma is okay in
a brief role. Saurabh Shukla is excellent as the detective.
Ankur Nayyar is efficient but his role has been cut
short by happily packing him off to London. He's not
even around when a tragedy occurs in his sister's life!
Sudhanshu Pandey is good. Anushuman Mahaley's camerawork
is good. Well-executed action sequences by Abbas Ali
Moghul. Himesh Reshammiya's music is soulful. What could
go against the film is the lack of hype and publicity
around it. Otherwise it should do average business.
